Winter Newsletter
We wanted to say a big Thank You to our PAC for putting on our Pumpkin Patch and the grade 5's for running Pumpkin Olympics on Halloween! It was a fun day for all our students.
Below are a few updates/reminders for the following weeks until we get to Winter Break in December.
Dress for the Weather
We have been experiencing lots of winter weather lately. We try to send our students outside at recess and lunch every day so please make sure your child is dressing for the weather every morning. If it is raining, please make sure they are wearing a raincoat, water proof shoes/boots, and have an umbrella. It's also a good idea to send a change of clothes in their backpack in case they get wet from our playground equipment and puddles. On cold days, they should be wearing warm coats and mittens.
Also, please remember to check the lost and found near the office to make sure your child doesn't leave important items behind!
Lunches
We've recently been having lots of students coming to the office asking for more food for lunch. Unfortunately, we cannot feed all the children in the school at lunch time. Please make sure you are having regular conversations with your children about their lunch. You should be discussing if they are getting enough food to eat every day and if they like the food that is being sent. We also ask that you discuss with your children what they should be eating at snack time and what they should be eating at lunchtime as we are finding some of our kids will eat all of their food at snack and have nothing left over for their lunch. A great idea would be to pack them in separate pockets or bags.
We also have our breakfast program every morning starting at 8:00am in our library. Students can grab their food to eat outside in their lineups or at the picnic tables. This is a free program offered to all students at John Maclure. They can even grab a snack for recess if they need to, just ask the staff running the program.
Drop Off/Pick Up
When dropping off and picking up your children, please do so in the designated area: the lower parking lot (even on rainy days). Dropping off and picking up in other areas is dangerous for students and causes traffic jams. Dropping off near the front door may seem like it will save time but it causes longer wait times for everyone.
We still have an Abbotsford Bylaw employee stopping by our school regularly during drop off/pick up times. Parking in the handicap spaces with no tag, the No Parking zones, and in our bus lane will result in a fine.
